Uncorked Bottles - Internet Gourmet

We publish here the most important points of an article published by Internet Gourmet after a tasting of Azienda Agricola Cantrina's Eretico wine: (...) Heretic 2003 Cantrina Heretic, just heretic. When you tell people it's a pinot noir raisin wine, they shudder. Then they taste it and... It took Cristina Inganni's winemaking extremism to come up with such a wine. Which is the child of her vintage: a very hot 2003. And since they have quite a lot of pinot noir in Cantrina, a contradina in the extreme hinterland of Lake Garda in the Brescia area, and the grapes were over-ripe, Cristina decided to dare the unthinkable. And so, a red wine of absolute heresy was born. A single barrique. Then finished in a few small 0.375 barrels. It is a memorable wine, believe me. (...) The judgement is given in sms-style smiley faces. - one smiley face is for a wine of correct and pleasant drinkability - two facets for a wine of fine pleasure - three facets for satisfying wines, the highest points of the respective types.

Cantrina triumphs again at Aldeno and opens up to the «autochthonous»: the Bedizzole winery, managed by Cristina Inganni with her husband Diego Lavo, won for the third consecutive time the title of «best IGT label of previous vintages» at the Mostra dei Merlot d'Italia in Aldeno (Tn), an increasingly prestigious event dedicated exclusively to this prestigious grape variety. The award went to «Nepomuceno 2004», the flagship label of this small winery that for years has been distinguishing itself for a very special approach to the viticulture of the area, focused above all on the nuances and characteristics that the unique Valtenesi terroir can offer to the «repertoire» of great international wines.

From volcanoes to glacial moraine with Nepomuceno, Merlot IGT Benaco Bresciano 2003 from the Cantrina winery in Bedizzole (Brescia) where only international grape varieties are cultivated. Diego Lavo, owner with his wife Cristina Inganni, emphasised the importance of precisely this type of soil squeezed between fluvial and glacial deposits that characterises their Merlot. The vintage was perfect because an unexpected hailstorm in June had destroyed the 70% of grapes. This forced thinning, which we, lucidly, would never have had the courage to do, allowed the grapes to ripen excellently, rich in glycerine and alcohol
