Right from the very start of our efforts as Winegrowers, we have firmly committed ourselves to producing high quality wine, and always with profound respect for the local terroir and overall environment in which we work.
With spring at the doors, we’re happy to send you some brief news items about what’s going on at Cantrina. It’s certainly no longer novel, but we’ve had the umpteenth mild winter, an aspect of climate change that we have been seeing for years now. This year, though, conditions were unusually wet and tedious, with drizzles in autumn that lasted for months. They didn’t harm the health of the vines, but conditions were certainly unpleasant for those in the vineyards doing the winter pruning.
In a few days, finally, after two years, we will complete planting our new vineyard, on land we recently bought. We are anxiously expecting the initial crop—in harvest 2025--from the first vines planted in 2023.
(...) Groppello, a red wine for fish and aperitifs.
Cristina Inganni never imagined that she would become a winemaker while attending the Brera Academy in Milan, nor that she would come to live in Cantrina, a small hamlet in the municipality of Bedizzole whose profile dominates the vineyards. She did so to carry on the dream of her first husband, who died prematurely, who had planted the first vines (now nine hectares) of the Azienda Agricola Cantrina, inspired by French production and maintaining a radical idea of absolute quality. Cristina carries it on today together with Diego Lavo, her partner and second husband. Their Riviera del Garda Classico Groppello DOC (13 €) is a wine that enhances the terroir: gentle and sinuous, it is also appreciated with fish. In summer it becomes a cool aperitif.
