Lake Garda, with Cantrina, again on the Merlot podium - Brescian Wines and Cuisine
Vini e Cucina Bresciana publishes an article about Azienda Agricola Cantrina winning Best Merlot in Italy, here are the highlights:
(...) Second participation and second victory: the Nepomuceno of Cantrina, a small winery run by Cristina Inganni with her husband Diego Lavo in Bedizzole, in the Brescian hinterland of Lake Garda, once again asserts itself in the competition of Italy's greatest Merlots.
With the success obtained with the Benaco Bresciano Nepomuceno 2003 at the fifth edition of the national exhibition of the Merlot d'Italia of Aldeno, in the Province of Trento,Cantrina has repeated the prestigious result already obtained two years ago with the 2001 vintage, imposing itself in the category of Merlot Igt of the vintages prior to 2005. The new vintages being matured in the Bedizzole cellar are now destined to mark a turning point in the interpretation of Garda Merlot: “Since we do not lack concentration and expressive power,” emphasises Cristina Inganni, "since 2004 we have been following the path of further growth in the characteristics of elegance and balance, putting muscularity in second place in favour of finesse and the representation of the terroir of origin, the true element that makes a wine unique and unrepeatable.
