PGI: CANTRINA: ITS FIRST TWENTY YEARS - Ioeilvino

We have known Cristina Inganni for many years, practically since the beginning of her adventure in the world of wine; she had been introduced to us by a producer friend in Lugana and so we were able to taste her wines several times over the years. Later we also met Diego Lavo, who later became co-owner of the Cantrina winery. Cantrina is a small hamlet in the municipality of Bedizzole. It was here in 1999 that Cristina Inganni decided to carry on the dream of her husband Dario Dattoli, a Brescian restaurateur who had died in an accident the year before, and who was passionate about French wines, and had planted some ten years earlier some vineyards for the production of wines to be consumed in his own premises. Diego Lavo, who ran a company specialising in planting vineyards, came to her aid in this venture. Thus were born the first three wines, marketed from the 1999 vintage. Over the years, the area under vines has increased; there are now eight hectares under vine, divided into three different plots, for a production of around 40 thousand bottles, divided into eight different labels. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the winery, three vertical tastings of the first wines produced by the company were offered, from the first vintage, i.e. 1999, to those currently on the market. The three wines, which have seen considerable changes in their elaboration over the years, are: Igt Benaco Bresciano Bianco “Rinè”; Igt Benaco Bresciano Rosso “Nepomuceno” and Vino Bianco Passito “Sole di Dario”. Zerdì 2010, Cantrina - Slowine

(...) Cantrina's Zerdì 2010 is a pure Rebo, with an inviting nose of ripe fruit and black pepper. In the mouth it is full, powerful and round, thanks to a truly skilful use of wood. The spiciness and pleasantly bitter finish bonded wonderfully with meat ravioli, sprinkled with a pinch of nutmeg and plenty of Parmigiano Reggiano. (...)

IGT Benaco Bresciano Rosanoire - Cantrina 2013 - Il cucchiaio d'argento

Already the label, which is very special, with a criss-cross of geometric designs freely drawn by hand, the name of the wine, Rosanoire, written in block letters in the bottom right-hand corner, and a name, Cristina Inganni, which starts with the final e and rises perpendicularly, makes it clear that this rosé has all the hallmarks of heterogeneity. One only has to inquire about the winery, which is called Cantrina, the name of the small hamlet in the rural village of Bedizzole, western offshoot of the morainic hills that surround the Brescian shore of Lake Garda, to immediately discover that making wine, for Cristina Inganni (the Cristina of the label mentioned above) and Diego Lavo, is nothing more than a “free exercise in style”.

There is the air of Lake Garda in the fine wines of Cantrina - Eco di Bergamo

posted on 4 July 2014
«Free exercise in style», is how Cristina Inganni and Diego Lavo sum up their way of interpreting the craft of winemaking. They do this in Cantrina, a tiny hamlet in the municipality of Bedizzole, a western offshoot of the morainic hills surrounding the Brescia side of Lake Garda. From here the lake cannot be seen, but the effect on the climate is still felt, so much so that it is included in the territory protected by the regulations of the new Valtènesi DOC. But denomination aside, it is precisely that «free exercise in style» in interpretation that distinguishes the wines of Cantrina, which are born from the six hectares of vines cultivated with painstaking care by Diego Lavo (by the way, they are in the process of «converting» to organic).
