Raise your glasses to Merlot - Lombardy on the table

Lombardia in Tavola published an article on the Merlot d'Italia exhibition in which Azienda Agricola Cantrina won the best Merlot d'Italia award, here are the highlights: (...) Attentive, informed, ready for confrontation and willing to be involved. But above all happy to have had the opportunity to taste Merlot in all its possible versions. Many visitors and enthusiasts came to Aldeno (TN) for the “Merlot d'Italia” wine event. A total of 5,000 plus people attended the Wine Theatre, as the parterre in Aldeno was called. This, in short, is the balance of the 8th edition of the ’Mostra Merlot d'Italia“, an event promoted by the municipal administration, assisted by a whole series of local supporters, Trentino Spa in primis. (...) (...) With the success obtained with the Benaco Bresciano Nepomuceno 2003, in particular, the Cantrina winery repeated the prestigious result already achieved two years ago with the wine from the 2001 vintage. Lombardy, and in particular the Garda area, is therefore among the most suitable areas for Merlot, and Cantrina proves this. ”From the outset,“ said Cristina Inganni of the Cantrina winery, ”we have been oriented towards the production of medium and long ageing wines based on international wines. The choice may appear counter to the Gardesana tradition, but we believe that this can be a personal opportunity to express the idea of territory, of terroir, given that the same grape variety offers extremely different results in situations that are geographically and culturally distant. The Azienda Agricola “Cantrina” managed, in the first person, by Crìstina Inganni has succeeded in making this synthesis, dedicating its production to the finest crus of a historic wine house, desired by Dario Dattoli, a lover of French wines, “transferred” to the gentle hills of Lake Garda. Upon the untimely death of the young entrepreneur Dario Dattoli (1998), his young wife Cristina Inganni, a set designer by profession in Milan (Brera Academy) decided to continue the project with the collaboration of Diego Lavo, an expert in the field of agriculture and wine production, assisted by the Zynè oenological team.

Heretic 2003 Cantrina Heretic, just heretic. When you tell people it's a pinot noir raisin wine, they cringe. Then they taste it and... It took Cristina Inganni's winemaking extremism to come up with such a wine. Which is the child of her vintage: a very hot 2003. And since they have quite a lot of pinot noir at Cantrina, a contradina in the extreme hinterland of Lake Garda in the Brescia area, and the grapes were over-ripe, Cristina decided to dare the unthinkable. And so, a red wine of absolute heresy was born. A single barrique. Then finished in a few 0.375 litre bottles.
