Lake Garda, with Cantrina, again on the Merlot podium - Brescian Wines and Cuisine

Vini e Cucina Bresciana publishes an article about Azienda Agricola Cantrina winning Best Merlot in Italy, here are the highlights: (...) Second participation and second victory: the Nepomuceno of Cantrina, a small winery run by Cristina Inganni with her husband Diego Lavo in Bedizzole, in the Brescian hinterland of Lake Garda, once again asserts itself in the competition of Italy's greatest Merlots. With the success obtained with the Benaco Bresciano Nepomuceno 2003 at the fifth edition of the national exhibition of the Merlot d'Italia of Aldeno, in the Province of Trento,Cantrina has repeated the prestigious result already obtained two years ago with the 2001 vintage, imposing itself in the category of Merlot Igt of the vintages prior to 2005. Cantrina is a tiny rural hamlet in the municipality of Bedizzole, in the Brescia hinterland of Lake Garda. But it is also the name of the beautiful winery of Cristina Inganni and Diego Lavo, founded in 1999. (...) The range of labels offered by the Cantrina company has naturalness, integrity and respect for the land as its common thread. The Riviera del Garda Classico Groppello '23, which we awarded for the best value for money in the region in the Gambero Rosso's Berebene 2025 guide, is also a spokesman for these demands.

The name of the winery is borrowed from “a tiny rural village of Valtènesi located in the municipality of Bedizzole, in the Brescia hinterland of Lake Garda in Lombardy”. In fact, it is in Cantrina that Cristina Inganni and Diego Lavo live and work, the founders of this small, strictly family-run company with just under 8 hectares of land to cultivate ’on the hills of morainic origin in three different plots for a total of 45 thousand vine stocks“.

In particular, this one from Cantrina winery, a company from Bedizzole (BS), is a very simple pink, as if just blooming, very faint, a watercoloured carmine. It somehow announces the barely suffused scents of small, ripening red fruits, slow notes of fresh flowers and embraces some very evanescent scents that briefly touch me. This is a pink Valtènesi, made only from Groppello grapes.
