Cantrina makes it three at the “Merlot d'Italia” - Brescia Oggi

Brescia Oggi dedicates an article to Azienda Agricola Cantrina after winning third prize at the Best Merlot of Italy exhibition, here are the highlights: Cantrina makes it three at the “Merlot d'Italia” show (...) Cantrina triumphs again in Aldeno and opens the door to the «autochthonous»: the winery from Bedizzole, managed by Cristina Inganni with her husband Diego Lavo, won for the third consecutive time the title of «best IGT label of previous vintages» at the Mostra dei Merlot d'Italia in Aldeno (Tn), an increasingly prestigious event dedicated exclusively to this prestigious grape variety. The award went to «Nepomuceno 2004», the flagship label of this small winery that for years has been distinguishing itself for a very special approach to the viticulture of the area, focused above all on the nuances and characteristics that the unique terroir of the Valtenesi can offer to the «repertoire» of great international wines. The other night at dinner by the lake, a warm and pleasant evening, so much so that we ate outside, some Bagoss and a bottle of Eretico from the Cantrina winery arrived on the table. It is a pinot noir raisin wine... ugh, a pinot noir raisin wine? But yes, a wine, pinot noir, which certainly doesn't have the image of a raisin wine and which makes a great impression because you expect it to be sweet, but instead... it has residual sugar, no doubt about it, but it is really a great wine-wine with a dark violet colour that will be even better as it matures. The Villa Fiordaliso sommelier, a good man, who chooses his wines one by one and knows how to tell without tediousness, brought out the Eretico to take us on unusual journeys and he really nailed it.

Cantrina, the village of Valtenesi, gives its name to the winery where Cristina Inganni and Diego Lavo work in the vineyard and cellar, convinced that wine must express personality, uniqueness and be able to speak of its territory of origin. The soils on which the winery is located yield structured wines with good alcohol content, good minerality and high acidity. Long-lived wines that are born with natural respect for the interaction between soil and vineyard. Cantrina (www.cantrina.it) is dedicated to the production of medium to long ageing wines, mostly breaking away from the production specifications of local DOC wines to obtain greater freedom of action on cellar choices, which also vary according to the vintage. The only exception is the recently introduced Groppello, a fair homage to the area's typical grape variety.
