The Mediterranean flavours of Lower Garda

(...) Groppello, a red wine for fish and aperitifs.

Cristina Inganni never imagined that she would become a winegrower while attending the Brera Academy in Milan, nor that she would come to live in Cantrina, a small hamlet in the municipality of Bedizzole whose profile dominates the vineyards. She did so to carry on the dream of her first husband, who died prematurely, who had planted the first vines (now nine hectares) of the Azienda Agricola Cantrina, inspired by French production and maintaining a radical idea of absolute quality. Cristina carries it on today together with Diego Lavo, her partner and second husband. Their Riviera del Garda Classico Groppello DOC (13 €) is a wine that enhances the terroir: gentle and sinuous, it is also appreciated with fish. In summer it becomes a cool aperitif.

Cantrina is the only one among the “extremes” - Brescia Oggi

posted on 10 November 2006
Garda Classico has been selected as one of the “Extreme Wines” of the Merano Wine Festival: the event, dedicated to the top national production, staged from tomorrow to Monday 13 November in the Kurkhaus, has included the Cantrina di Bedizzole winery (the only Brescian one) among the companies included in the section ’wines produced under extreme conditions in terms of altitude, climate, soil and vinification. Cantrina, however, will not be the only one to represent the Province in the “Top Selected“ section that, according to the Wine Festival's strict criteria, brings together the best of the national wine scene. Lombardy is represented by six wineries, five of which are Brescian, namely the Franciacorta Bellavista, Cà dl Bosco, il Mosnel, Monte Rosa, as well as Cà dei Frati representing Lugana.

Cantrina a mini Burgundy - Giornale di Brescia

posted on 25 October 2005
When it was founded in the 1990s, it wanted to be a little corner of the beloved (and envied) Bourgogne stolen from the French and transplanted to the Bedizzole countryside. ’Mission impossible«, those in the know will say, wrinkling their noses. And yet the results of this unusual, tiny Garda winery are all there to be tasted, swirling the glass to soften the aggression of the tannins. The plenty of sunshine that favours Cantrina di Bedizzole and the consequent narrow temperature range, the low altitude, do not prevent the wines of the Cantrina winery from making a splendid impression. Merit perhaps goes to the »vine by vine, bunch by bunch« care given to the vines and a vinification done substantially »by hand« in the tiny cellar that borders the living room of the house. Thus we happen to taste a Pinot Noir in purity with an imposing structure and very typical character (it is called Corteccio), no less surprising is the white Riné (like the hills behind the winery) that overflows with scents of fruit and vanilla.

The Right Match - The Arena of Verona

With a high fat content, there is a need for an important wine. Oh, God, every rule has its exceptions (and in this case we suggest to transgressors a well-structured white) but personally we prefer a mature, harmonious red wine with good structure. Since every like loves its like, if the tripe is Florentine, accompany it with a Tuscan wine, Chianti DOCG; Barco Reale Carmignano DOC; excellent Pinot Noir Villa Bagnolo by Marchesi Pancrazi and Birbone by Fattoria Barbi di Montalcino. (...) Busecca Milanese goes well with an Oltrepò Pavese sangue di Giuda and, to top it all off, one of the best Merlots in Italy, NEPOMUCENO 2001 from Cantrina di Bedizzole in the province of Brescia.
