Valtènesi: Cantrina e seus vinhos orgânicos

Valtènesi and Benaco Bresciano - Cantrina It is wonderful to arrive at the winery during the grape harvest. The green leaves, the full bunches of grapes, the vineyards covered in herbs and the warm summer sun. I met Cristina, the owner of Azienda Agricola Cantrina, who guided me through a tasting of all her wines. It was an incredible experience, not only for the territory, but also to get to know the personality of Cantrina. The success of a company is due to its authenticity and the quality of its results. An organic winery, it cultivates the indigenous Groppello grape in three Denominazione di Origine Controllata versions: the rosé ‘A Rose, is a rose’, liquid poetry of Riviera del Garda Classico Valtènesi Chiaretto, 100% Groppello, after pressing only the flower must is obtained with maturation for a few months in steel tanks, the slightly orangey rosé, unreleased, ‘My Roses’ Riviera del Garda Classico Valtènesi Chiaretto, 90% Groppello and 10% Pinot Nero, fermentation and ageing take place on their own yeasts, in red wine tonneaux used for a year and a further 18 months in steel vats, the classic ‘Groppello’ in purity Riviera del Garda Classico Groppello, Groppello Gentile 90%, Groppello di Mocasina 10%, ageing in cement vats. (...) Groppello, a red wine for fish and aperitifs. Cristina Inganni never imagined that she would become a winemaker while attending the Brera Academy in Milan, nor that she would come to live in Cantrina, a small hamlet in the municipality of Bedizzole whose profile dominates the vineyards. She did so to carry on the dream of her first husband, who died prematurely, who had planted the first vines (now nine hectares) of the Azienda Agricola Cantrina, inspired by French production and maintaining a radical idea of absolute quality. Cristina carries it on today together with Diego Lavo, her partner and second husband. Their Riviera del Garda Classico Groppello DOC (13 €) is a wine that enhances the terroir: gentle and sinuous, it is also appreciated with fish. In summer it becomes a cool aperitif.

Manhattan and Boston toast with Cantrina's signature Valtènesi: the Bedizzole winery recently signed an agreement that brought its share of US sales to 60% of total business 2024 exports. We have re-established contact with an importer we have known for 25 years, but who has changed strategy by concentrating on very small companies able to offer products from indigenous grape varieties.

Cantrina is a tiny rural hamlet in the municipality of Bedizzole, in the Brescia hinterland of Lake Garda. But it is also the name of the beautiful winery of Cristina Inganni and Diego Lavo, founded in 1999. (...) The range of labels offered by the Cantrina company has naturalness, integrity and respect for the land as its common thread. The Riviera del Garda Classico Groppello '23, which we awarded for the best value for money in the region in the Gambero Rosso's Berebene 2025 guide, is also a spokesman for these demands.
