Raise your glasses to Merlot - Lombardy on the table

Lombardia in Tavola published an article on the Merlot d'Italia exhibition in which Azienda Agricola Cantrina won the best Merlot d'Italia award, here are the highlights: (...) Attentive, informed, ready for confrontation and willing to be involved. But above all happy to have had the opportunity to taste Merlot in all its possible versions. Many visitors and enthusiasts came to Aldeno (TN) for the “Merlot d'Italia” wine event. A total of 5,000 plus people attended the Wine Theatre, as the parterre in Aldeno was called. This, in short, is the balance of the 8th edition of the ’Mostra Merlot d'Italia“, an event promoted by the municipal administration, assisted by a whole series of local supporters, Trentino Spa in primis. (...) (...) With the success obtained with the Benaco Bresciano Nepomuceno 2003, in particular, the Cantrina winery repeated the prestigious result already achieved two years ago with the wine from the 2001 vintage. Lombardy, and in particular the Garda area, is therefore among the most suitable areas for Merlot, and Cantrina proves this. ”From the outset,“ said Cristina Inganni of the Cantrina winery, ”we have been oriented towards the production of medium and long ageing wines based on international wines. The name of the winery is borrowed from “a tiny rural village of Valtènesi located in the municipality of Bedizzole, in the Brescia hinterland of Lake Garda in Lombardy”. In fact, it is in Cantrina that Cristina Inganni and Diego Lavo live and work, the founders of this small, strictly family-run company with just under 8 hectares of land to cultivate ’on the hills of morainic origin in three different plots for a total of 45 thousand vine stocks“.

In particular, this one from Cantrina winery, a company from Bedizzole (BS), is a very simple pink, as if just blooming, very faint, a watercoloured carmine. It somehow announces the barely suffused scents of small, ripening red fruits, slow notes of fresh flowers and embraces some very evanescent scents that briefly touch me. This is a pink Valtènesi, made only from Groppello grapes.
