Lake Garda, with Cantrina, again on the Merlot podium - Brescian Wines and Cuisine

Vini e Cucina Bresciana publishes an article about Azienda Agricola Cantrina winning Best Merlot in Italy, here are the highlights: (...) Second participation and second victory: the Nepomuceno of Cantrina, a small winery run by Cristina Inganni with her husband Diego Lavo in Bedizzole, in the Brescian hinterland of Lake Garda, once again asserts itself in the competition of Italy's greatest Merlots. With the success obtained with the Benaco Bresciano Nepomuceno 2003 at the fifth edition of the national exhibition of the Merlot d'Italia of Aldeno, in the Province of Trento,Cantrina has repeated the prestigious result already obtained two years ago with the 2001 vintage, imposing itself in the category of Merlot Igt of the vintages prior to 2005. (...) (...) The new vintages being matured in the Bedizzole cellar are now destined to mark a turning point in the interpretation of Garda Merlot: “Since we do not lack concentration and expressive power,” emphasises Cristina Inganni, "since 2004 we have been following the path of further growth in the characteristics of elegance and balance, putting muscularity in second place in favour of finesse and the representation of the terroir of origin, the true element that makes a wine unique and unrepeatable. Cantrina's Valtènesi. Garda wine restarts - Eco di Bergamo

(...) While claiming the originality of its «free exercise in style», which derives from the choices made at the time of its birth about a quarter of a century ago, Cantrina di Bedizzole also believed in the birth of Valtènesi before and now believes in this proposed change. It is not for nothing that the company's vineyard holdings have been expanded with a couple of hectares of Groppello to be dedicated to the production of Valtènesi Rosso. Proof of the intentions of Cristina Inganni and Diego Lavo, a couple committed between vineyard and cellar to producing wines that respect their origins and are in harmony with the environment. Il Sole di Dario Vdt 2007 | Azienda Agricola Cantrina di Cristina Inganni, Bedizzole (Brescia) | www.cantrina.it A very original blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon and Riesling (Dario Dattoli, the founder of Cantrina, to whom the wine was dedicated, wanted it that way) obtained from selected grapes, placed in boxes and left to dry for about three months. Low in alcohol (11°), it has a substantial residual sugar content (190 grams/litre) contrasted by considerable acidity. Thanks to these characteristics and the consistent aromatic content of the starting grapes, the wine plays on perfect balance, in the aromas as well as in the taste. The colour is golden yellow with amber hints.
