Cantrina: the first twenty years - Lavinium

We have known Cristina Inganni for many years, practically since the beginning of her adventure in the world of wine; she had been introduced to us by a producer friend in Lugana and so we were able to taste her wines several times over the years. Later we also met Diego Lavo, who later became co-owner of the Cantrina winery. Cantrina is a small hamlet in the municipality of Bedizzole. It was here in 1999 that Cristina Inganni decided to carry on the dream of her husband Dario Dattoli, a Brescian restaurateur - who had died in an accident the year before - who was passionate about French wines, and had planted some ten years earlier some vines for the production of wines to be consumed in his own premises. Diego Lavo, who had a company specialising in planting vineyards, came to her aid in this venture. Thus were born the first three wines, marketed from the 1999 vintage. (...) Continue reading.

Garda Classico DOC Groppello 2009 Cantrina - Wine to Wine

The Cantrina is a small winery, now run by Cristina together with another super-enthusiast, Diego Lavo: just under 6 hectares of land, on two plots, about 20,000 bottles produced, but tenacious work that has involved, with many trials and experiments, even reckless ones, something like 33,000 vine stocks, initially “favouring international varieties and now rediscovering, in part, some local vines”. An estate where trying new ways is standard practice, as the owner likes to remind us when she observes that “the wines convey the character of the territory of origin and of the people who make them; from these elements, thanks also to my past experiences linked to an artistic training, I wanted to give our wines an absolutely creative and consequently unique imprint.

(...) In an attempt to entice you to discover the “soft tannicity” of Groppello, its frank, at times pleasantly rough but authentic character, I have chosen the wine of a winery that is truly in the hinterland, in Bedizzole, a village located “on the last morainic hills formed in a distant era by the glaciers that shaped the Garda territory”. The company is run by one of the most vivacious and passionate wine women I know, Cristina Inganni, who is committed to continuing the work of her husband Dario Dattoli, a restaurateur and great connoisseur of Bacchus who died prematurely in 1998, and who wanted to create this small business in the early 1990s.
